I like to set lots of goals at the beginning of a new season, and the new year is no exception. I love to track and manage and organize goals and watch how I grow and check things off my list as I go. I have personal goals, professional goals, business goals, Mom goals. I’m tired just thinking about all my goals. Instead of creating several goals for every aspect of my life, I’m trying to make one vague goal for my personal life and one for my business, and then break those out into intentions that can change throughout the year and all contribute to me getting better.
It has felt that every time I turn around lately, someone is losing someone close to them. Considering this in the context of not getting any younger myself, my personal goal for 2019 is to be healthier. I know it sounds vague, but that’s on purpose. I’ll exercise more (starting with this 30 day yoga challenge from Yoga with Adriene), drink enough water, keep the caffeine to a minimum and try to cut back on the sugar. I’m not depriving myself of anything I love, but I don’t need to have dessert after every meal, either. I’m trying to be more intentional with the ways that I treat myself this year.
But the reason you’re here is to learn my 2019 goal for Allison Patel Photography, which is to provide more of the options my clients want.
I took a long look at my business in 2018, through my new-mom lens. At several points through the first year of my son’s life, I wished I had a photographer on retainer to take family photos as my baby grew from a cooing newborn to the walking mimic he is, full of personality and spunk. The thought of hiring a new photographer each step of the way was paralyzing, and sounded expensive. I thought about my expecting and new-parent clients, and created the options I’d wished I’d had through the first year.
Not forgetting my family clients, I repackaged my family services to have a wider range of options for lots of different types of families and family needs. You can read more about them here.
I have lots of goals, and I needed to simplify in order to not get bogged down with attempting to improve myself and my business. My hope is that the new options I’ve created for my family, baby, and maternity clients will help you reach some of your own goals this year, too (maybe like getting in front of the camera more often, or printing the photos you have and getting them up).
