When I left my full-time job at VCU in January of 2020, I never could have guessed that I’d end up putting everything on hold while the world paused and we all plunged into Covid-World (terrible amusement park, zero stars, would not recommend) 6 weeks later. It suddenly felt very much like I had chosen poorly to go full-time with photography as my sole form of income. January 2021 was a rather subdued anniversary as I marked 10 years in business.

2021 turned out to be a banner year, though. I documented three new little lives in the beginning of January and began a rebirth of my own, concentrating on connection and simplifying the family photography process for clients and their busy families.

I started the APP Family Membership for existing clients in 2021, made some investments into new equipment, developed a whole new website, focused on my education, changed my pricing and process and simplified the options in order to remove the barriers for clients who want me to help them document their families.

2022 looks to be an amazing year, if not for any other reason than the fact that I won’t be starting over from scratch on anything this year. I have some goals, though. I’ll be continuing my project to document my life daily. I’ve invited new members to join the family membership, which simplifies the process for existing clients even further. I’m continuing my education and being intentional about the classes I’m taking, to extend my knowledge and skills in the art of photography and the business of soloprenuership.

My word of 2022 is Intentionality, which is “the fact of being deliberate or purposive.” Instead of fumbling around, I’m being deliberate. I have goals, as I celebrate 11 years in business. I want to help lots of new clients and continue to document my existing families, but I also want to spend time with my own family (work flexibility was one of the driving forces of leaving my 8-5 job, after all).

I’m really excited about all the ways I’ll be able to help you in 2022, after laying so many foundational bricks in 2021. I can’t wait to see you this year, for your family and/or maternity/newborn photography!
