Change is Afoot
Nothing is really constant in this life. Change is always happening, has just happened, or is about to happen. "If you are not moving forward, you are moving backward," Mikhail Gorbachev said. Well, change is afoot here at Allison Patel Photography once again. We're taking a giant leap forward, in fact. Here's the story I shared on my Instagram on Sunday, the last day of my maternity leave:
It was winter 2000 when I toured VCU for the first time. It was the only school I applied to, and I was more than thrilled when I was accepted into the School of the Arts' inaugural photography class.
It was winter 2004 when I graduated from VCU, and had no idea what I was going to do next. Photography and I needed a break, so I stayed at VCU, continued working in Res Life & Housing, and tried to figure out my next thing.
It was winter 2008 when my husband and I decided to move to DC and I put in my two week notice with VCU. The day after I gave notice, I had an unscheduled appendectomy, and during my two weeks of healing, we decided not to move to DC. I unresigned from VCU before my two weeks were up.
It was winter 2011 when I finally made up with my first love and formed Allison Patel Photography. I've had the pleasure of working with more than 70 families in various stages of life thus far, and I can't wait to see what 2020 brings.
In the winter of 2020, twenty years after my first visit, it's finally time for me to move on from VCU. I've been at VCU as a student and employee for more than half of my life, and I owe a lot of gratitude, heartache, and love to this place. I'll be making Allison Patel Photography my full-time gig as of February 1. I'll be working from home, with my kids gloriously underfoot, and I'm super excited about my new adventure.
So, what does this mean for you? It means I'll be more present, my turnaround times will be shorter, and I'll be available for weekday sessions starting in February. Weekday sessions are particularly nice for newborn and Fresh 48 sessions, when you want to schedule around the newest member of your family.
You should see more blog posts. I'll finally finish those client guides I started so you have fewer questions. And I'll be able to answer more quickly those questions you do have.
