A couple of weeks after Claudia’s family came to visit from overseas for the holidays, we got together again for a cozy winter maternity mini session at their home. The day was gloomy and rainy (like seemingly all days in RVA lately), and we stayed indoors, except for a quick jaunt to their (massive, I’m so jealous) covered front porch. The overcast skies really created a quiet sense of stillness for our mini session. I love the way the gloomy day created a grainy, film-like look that accentuates that mood.
We started with some solo images of Claudia, and included some bare belly shots that she wanted. Then she ran for a quick wardrobe change and Chen joined in on the fun so we could get some couple’s photos.
I love shooting in close quarters (or making it look like we’re shooting in close quarters). The tight shots feel so cozy to me, and really zero in on the details you want to remember, like the way your baby feels in your belly when you’re 8 months pregnant, instead of how your ankles, knees, and feet feel when you’re 8 months pregnant.
Thank you for inviting me into your home again, Claudia and Chen! I can’t wait to meet your little one and grab all their little details, too (insert all the heart eye emoji faces here). Maybe your babe will bring Spring when they come, too.
