Front Yard Family Photos

Casey DM’d me on Instagram (@allisonpatelphotography) and confessed she’d never had professional family photos taken before. Her son and mine are extremely close in age (like, hours apart) and it was high time (in my opinion) for two-year-old Henry to get in front of the camera.

We met at a spot that would be most familiar and comfortable for Henry – their front yard – and we got going right away. Henry was shy for approximately 3.6 seconds before he opened right up and started showing me his favorite spots in the yard.

We went for a walk up the street and found lots of ways to rein in a wiggly toddler while keeping him excited for what we were doing. Spins, dips, and rides on Daddy’s shoulders were all effective in keeping him close and getting the photos of a family that clearly loves each other.

This hilarious sequence of events where Henry got the giggles makes me laugh with him every time.

Casey, Matt, and Henry, it was such a pleasure to finally meet you in person! I hope you’re encouraged by your first family photo experience and by how wonderfully the 2 year old did. You did an amazing job preparing him for our time together and you should all feel very proud.
