I had no idea when I pulled up at Jessie and Buzz’s* house earlier this month (it’s STILL March?!) that this would be the last shoot I’d do for a while. Actually, I optimistically thought the opposite. I left my job at VCU 2 months ago with the plan of taking my photography full-time and shooting lots of sweet families like theirs. I even thought I’d be able to fill my days shooting in-home newborn photos like this one.
And then God laughed.
So, if I’ve seen my last session for a while, I’m glad this was the last one. It has been so great getting to know Jessie and Buzz over the last few months, first during their family session, then their maternity session in January. It’s plain that sweet baby Rex* was a huge step for them into first-time parenthood. It was so wonderful to see them adjusting so well to being a family of three.
We found all the sunniest parts of their home in the nursery and a cozy nook in a dormer upstairs. It was even warm enough in mid-March for some outdoor photos during our in-home session. We rested for diaper changes and got some nursing sweetness when he got hungry near the end of our session. I so wanted to nuzzle his skin or his soft hair, but I resisted the temptation and let Mama do all the snuggling.
Jessie, Buzz, and Rex, thank you so much for letting me come into your home. It was a real pleasure to document the beginning of your life together. I hope the rest of your family is able to join you in person soon!
While APP is not closed, I am doing my best to be safe for you, me, and all our families. If you’re on a timeline and need newborn or maternity photos during this time, contact me and we’ll talk through the measures that we can/will need to take to stay safe. We may yet be able to do an in-home newborn session for you. <3
