One year at home: Lifestyle Family Photography

I love doing photos at clients’ homes. There’s an unknown element to walking into a home where you’ve never been (although I’d been here before) and I enjoy the challenge of shooting inside with natural light. Even if you think your home gets “no light,” I bet we can find a spot, even if it’s in the kitchen.

The best part of doing family photos at home though, is how relaxed your kids are. I just show up, masked and geared up, and your kids get to be themselves without the added suspense of a car ride to get nervous. Even if they require some warming up, it usually goes faster because they’re in a comfortable, familiar, safe place.

I really like incorporating the aspects of your home that you’ve made yours, too. Wedding photo in the background? Gallery of your family from the last five years? The pumpkins you decorated together? All big yeses. I also love to incorporate the things your kids love right now, like the favorite necklace (she wore just for me), the book they can’t stop reading, the bubble machine… this is your family, right now. In all its chaos and mayhem, full of snuggles and sudden meltdowns. And the dog you just can’t take ANYWHERE. They’re welcome to join us too.

Thank you, Christina and fam, for inviting me into your beautiful, comfortable home and being yourselves in front of the camera. I love every time we get together.

If you’re interested in your own in-home family session, winter is the perfect time to schedule one. (Cozy wool socks instead of uncomfortable fancy shoes, anyone?) Click here to schedule a call and let’s talk about what you’d like to see included in your own photos.
